Property Ownership in Modern Society : Rights and ResponsibilitiesThis section of reading is about the rights and responsibilities of catholic social teaching. Some of the points brought up in the section are the guidelines by which the Catholic teaches.Individuals have to learn on there own, be productive in their work, and appreciate God's creations. The section also talks the responsibilities and rights to own land. Catholic teaching does not believe in expropriation, to take away land from it's owner for profit exchange. In Section 6 called The Dignity of Work, Rights of Workers, and Support for Labor Unions is about the teaching from the Church applied in work. The chapeter also discusses the beginnign of the feminist movement. In Russia, many of the lawswere being brought to the government's attention, allowing women to be legally and politically equal, marriage had become a civil procedure, divorse was legalized, illigitimacy was overruled, women didn't have to take their husbands sur-names, pregnancy leaves for working women, and women were becoming involved in the country's movement of industrialization.

Ch 20 cont.
I thought it was interesting that
the wave to the Americas was an
accident but when discovered people
went to settle but the colonialism
in africa and asia was mainly
through the government and the
colonialists did not settle, it
seems backwards. Because people
settled in the Americas the
demographic drastically changed,
the native americans where killed
and the population became the
British, Iberians and Africans.

Ch 20
Chapter twenty talks about expansion and colonial encounters. Colonial rule was becoming popular among many countries. The countries that showed the most interest were: France, Britain, Italy, Germany, Portuguese, Belgium, and Russia. Depending on which class you were apart of or which gender you were during the colonial era you would express different experiences of the era between each other.
There were to waves of European conquest. The first expansion was to the Americas while the second wave was the expansion to Asia and Africa. I wonder why the Europeans went to the Americas first when Africa and Asia are closer?
